El Fogón de Mariana - HAS NOW CLOSED
This restaurant has now closed
A few months ago it came as a shock that one of my favourite places Cafeteria Palladio for the 'penultima' drink on the way home was closed, but it has since opened as El Fogón de Mariana in Sanlucar de Barrameda. A small chain of restaurants local to Cadiz, that do wonderful meat dishes, so when you have had enough of those fried fish etc you can get you craving for a nice steak or fillet of pork.
The restaurant took over the whole furniture shop and the Cafeteria Palladio, so you now can down in relaxed open and airy double height rooms with paintings on the ceiling to enjoy some of the local delightful meats on offer.
They also do many special offers with a beers and tapa of cheese or jamon for not much more than you will pay for a beer in most places in Sanlucar.
My visit visit we had to get them to provide the food on hot plates, one of my little gripes is hot food served on cold plates, anyhow they are now getting the hang of this and the food served is top quality and at very good prices.
So when you are next in Sanlucar pop along Calle Ancha and opposite the taxi rank you will find El Fogón de Mariana on Calle San Juan, 32 in Sanlucar de Barrameda, 2 minutes walk from Plaza Cabildo.

Hello Ian.......you're quite right El Fogon offers top notch grub in a really nice environ at very reasonable prices.
It would particularly appeal to those who love their meat and gravy - the owner runs his own slaughterhouse so that helps him offer great quality and prices.

That's a real shame, we really liked the old bar, with it's comfortable chairs and Patio Andaluz. Anyhow it's good to see another new place to eat has opened. We hope to try it the next time we are in Sanlucar.

For Jose M - gravy is 'salsa de carne' which is very common in the UK and loved by people from the north of England.

They have special offers on at the moment with the main 10 meals from their menu being 50% off, so you can eat from as little as 3.50 Euros. Only Mon-Thur, not sure when the offer ends.
